Talman, a writer, poet, and journalist, was born near Fairport (Monroe County), New York (July 30, 1851); was educated in the New York public schools and in Macedon Academy; and came to Minnesota with his brother (1864), farming in Olmsted County. William C. Edgar was the publisher and editor of the Northwestern Miller, a flour milling trade journal published in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In 1906 Edgar started The Bellman as an outlet for his writing interests and ran it from the offices of the Northwestern Miller. During the later years of The Bellman's publication, Edgar became involved in famine relief efforts in Belgium during World War I. Russell was born in Hallowell, Maine in 1861, the son of Joseph and Mary (Haskell) Russell. He graduated from Bowdoin College in 1879 and worked on the Portland, Maine Advertiser. In 1885 he came to Minneapolis and was employed as a proofreader for the Minneapolis Journal. From that time until his retirement in the 1940s, he was associated with the Journal and the Minnetonka Record as a columnist and in other capacities. He married Mary Warner in 1908. He died in 1945.
